Giant Beetle

Description

Giant Beetles are a pest of The Lost Land. They are what their name implies, huge beetles that are the size of a small pet. Commonly colored black (although their colors vary region to region), they tend to be found in or near caves.

History

These insects have been around since the Lost Land formed. They are often referred by ancient tribes all around, and are used as traps or at the very least ingrained into the cultural folk tales in some way.

Behavior

Usually located inside cave systems. After larvae become an adult, they do not venture out of their home caves other than to hunt, and even so will not venture very far. Giant Beetles are actually omnivores, and most of the time tend to only eat plants, though, if vegetation is scarce, they will attack and eat small to medium sized fauna. If something comes too near their nests, they will attack on sight, so travelers still have to be cautious exploring in caverns.

Battle Stratagem and Threat Level

A single beetle will hardly stand a chance to anything larger than itself. The trouble is that they attack in clusters and are almost never alone. A good way to deal with groups of beetles is to take a blunt object or knife and swing at the beetles until they stop swarming or they are all disposed of.

Though the lost land is infested with them, they do not actively cause a threat to most settlements, and are easily manageable.
