Turok 2: Rok Match Update
The original planned release date came and went, and some were probably wondering whatever happened? Sevriman has finally given us an answer in his Steam post, which you can read there (https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/3753120/view/510717896817641511), but I will also post here as an archive:
Direction Change! The game was initially planned to be paid, and even permission was acquired. However, due to issues with Steam support for over three months and licensing difficulties, was decided to take a different approach. The main game will now be free, but some brand-new multiplayer features and weapons will move into separate DLC – the Expansion Pack. Additionally, a small 5-second startup delay has been added to the launcher. You can read the full list of changes included in the DLC’s on their respective pages.
Changelog:
Raptor is no longer affected by instagib and cannonball mutators.
Reduced main respawn protection from 4.0 seconds to 2.25 seconds.
Reduced respawn protection to 0.75 seconds for instagib and cannonball mutators.
Increased invincibility power-up duration from 8 to 9 seconds.
Pulse Rifle rate of fire increased by 5%, and its damage increased by 3%.
Fixed a bug where GSpy Lite could cause a memory access error on some PCs.
Fixed a bug where the NVIDIA gaming profile fix was not applied correctly.
Implemented minor code improvements.
Launcher Improvements, including:
Critical renderer settings are now protected from manual edits to prevent game crashes caused by curious players.
Launcher is now high-DPI compatible, ensuring it no longer appears extremely small on 4K displays.
New option: “Bigger Launcher”.
New sound option: Disable Taunts.
New feature in the launcher’s Mouse section: Hide Crosshair.
3D Shadows are now enabled by default, as in the original N64 version.
Made a serious attempt to fix the wrapper issue in windowed mode: the game window will now be forced to appear at the selected resolution instead of VGA.
Razor Wind’s on-hit blood spawn rate is no longer uncapped.
Players will no longer drop a Sunfire Pod as a pickup if they have no ammo left.
Reworked Title Screen Behavior for Single Player:
The game will no longer return to the title screen if there is no input for too long in the main menu.
The title screen will now transition to the main menu after a period of no input.
Demo playback has been disabled entirely due to its instability: it plays too fast at non-default game framerates and can corrupt memory (an original issue) in some cases.
After careful consideration, the rebalanced Plasma Rifle mutator has been integrated into the main game mode. Final changes compared to the original:
Main damage reduced from 100 to 80.
Weapon can now deal double damage (160) on headshots.
Block damage (weapon hit) increased from 25 to 55.
Recharge delay reduced from 1.9 seconds to 1.5 seconds (faster rate of fire).
Note: This change was necessary because the Plasma Rifle was overpowered from the start. While this was less critical in the past due to technical limitations, smaller monitors, and less precise mouses, modern equipment and fixes have made it unbearable, reducing opportunities to explore maps or use other weapons. I fully understand that some longtime players may prefer the original version, and I hope this change doesn’t upset you too much. Please try to adapt your skills to the rebalanced weapon, as this change done for the game’s good. If you prefer the original Plasma Rifle, you can still create or join a server with the mutator enabled to retain its original behavior.
New Features Developed Specifically for Expansion DLC:
New console command: “spectate”, which instantly switches you to spectator mode (Rok Match mode only). It works natively with a proper Observer tag and notifies other players. Frags and points reset upon use.
Music Player for Multiplayer with four play modes! You can now load your own tracks or use default single-player tracks. Supported formats: MP3, WMA, WAV.
One new announcer voice message at the start of a new round (triggers at a low chance).
New Features Developed Specifically for Supporter DLC:
You can now respawn with Talon in multiplayer. This is a weak, mostly useless melee weapon that can be used just for fun. To achieve a bare minimum usability next changes was applied:
Fixed ability to deal damage to players.
Damage per slice increased from 10 to 20.
Attack speed increased by 10%.
Added a unique killstring to highlight your prowess.
Startup Screen Changer for Single Player: You can now skip the first text screen, replace it with the Expansion Pak Found cinematic, or go straight to the main title screen.
Access to a small development history log.
